Shield is a PSI spell available for use in Mother, Earthbound and Mother 3.

Use
Shield's main use is to halve the damage done by enemies. It doesn't affect PSI spells, as there is PSI Shield for that. If this shield overlaps another, that shield is destroyed and Shield becomes the protector. The reverse also holds true. Using another shield cancels out the previous shield. Shield usually lasts three hits. It can last longer if the effect is stacked.
Mother
Ninten and Ana are both users of Shield. In Mother, it is called PSI Shield. It's use is basically a combination of both PSI Shield and Shield. There are three forms to it:
PSI Shield α guards one ally, halving the damage done.
PSI Shield β guards all allies, halving the damage done.
Power Shield acts as Counter. It guards one ally, halving the damage done, while reflecting all the damage done.
Mother 2
Ness and Poo are both users of Shield. It's use is to reflect or halve physical damage. There are four forms to it: Alpha, Sigma, beta and Omega.
Shield α guards one ally and halves the damage inflicted.
Shield Σ guards all allies, halving the damage inflicted.
Shield β guards one ally. It halves the damage inflicted, while reflecting the other half.
Shield Ω acts as Shield β, only it guards all allies.
Poo is a master of Shield, able to use all four forms. Ness is only able to use the alpha and beta forms.
Mother 3
Lucas is the sole user of Shield. There are two forms to it.
Shield α guards one ally and halves the damage for three hits unless stacked. Shield Ω guards all allies, halving the damage for three hits unless stacked.
Lucas is also able to use Counter, which acts as Shield, only it reflects half the physical damage inflicted. He is also able to use PSI Shield and PSI Counter.
